Staying With Us This Christmas?

Posted at 15 December 2022 in Village Life
Are you planning on staying with us over the Christmas period? Although it might be a daunting thought to spend the holidays away from friends, family and loved ones, it’s important to remember that you’re not alone.

Staying at your accommodation during the festive period is more common than you may think and is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and get a head start on studying for your January exams.

Check out our top tips on making the most of your time off at Christmas whilst living away from home.

Check out a Village Life event

From hot chocolate nights to pottery events, there’s something for everyone at our Village Life events.

Our events are also the perfect place to meet some new friendly faces, who may also be spending the holidays with us. They’re perfect to attend if you want to chat, laugh, and learn a new skill.

Track down other students

Although at times it may feel like you’re the only student staying at university throughout the festive period, that definitely isn’t the case! There are plenty of other students who are in the same position as you, so why not put yourself out there and make some new friends?

If you’re struggling with ways how to reach out, why not post a message in our closed Village Facebook Groups, they’re a great way for you to meet your fellow Village residents. Visit the Village Guide tab in the resident portal for a link to join your Villages designated group if you haven’t already!

Speak to friends and family

Although you may not be spending Christmas with your loved ones, they’re only a phone call away.

Whether it’s a phone call, WhatsApp message, FaceTime or text message keeping connected will help you feel more involved with what’s happening at home and ensure that you don’t miss out on any goings on, plus it’s always great to see some friendly faces.
Prepare for next semester

If you find yourself with some spare time over your Christmas break, why not use it wisely and prepare for those dreaded January exams?

Getting ahead on work assignments or revising for upcoming exams will help you prepare for the month early and take off some of the stress of cramming in last-minute revision and coursework.
Take time out for yourself

Remember, the Christmas holidays are a time to relax and unwind, so what better way to take some time for yourself?

Why not focus on some self-care? If you’re looking for some inspiration, we’ve rounded up a list of ways you can begin to practise self-care to help give yourself a little boost here.
