Five of the best road trips around the UK

Are you looking to go exploring with your friends this summer, but going abroad is too expensive? Road trip time!

The UK is full of iconic attractions that you can experience and still have the best of times. So pack up the car and get ready to hit the road.

York

You can visit this beautiful city full of attractions such as the York Minster for £10 per person. The York Minster is a major landmark in this city and it contains the largest concentration of medieval stained glass window in England – one for you History students out there!

The Shambles is a great location to visit while in York and makes a great picture for the ‘gram. It is a street of timber framed shops and it’s based all the way back to the medieval times that gives it that #vintage look.

You can’t visit York on a road trip and not go to a dungeon! The York Dungeon is only £15.49 per person and you will get a guided tour round with a few surprises…

Chester

This city is full of historic places and is known to be the city to the most complete set of city walls from the roman period in Britain and they are still standing strong to this day. You can also visit the Chester Cathedral and the amazing river called the Dee running through the city which you can grab an ice cream and walk along side.

It has lot of shops and a retail outlet called Cheshire Oaks where you can get discounted prices off some of the most popular brands. It’s home to one of the most popular zoo’s in the UK, Chester Zoo. They have a varied range of animals from elephants to giraffes it makes a great road trip day out.

Glastonbury

Not only good for the festival! Climb the Glastonbury Tor and get to the top to see the tower of St Michael. It’s a challenging climb with 500 steps to the top, do you think you have what it takes? Get all of the flat or your friends involved and have a group challenge – you’ll want to stretch your legs after that road trip down there.

Visit the Chalice Well and Gardens this is a place for beauty and meditation, so if you’re looking for a place to relax this summer then this could be the place for you. There are many gardens full of flowers and wildlife to enjoy in the sunny summer weather. It’s £4.20 for the day and its open 10am till 6pm every day.

Lake District

If you enjoy the outdoors this is the place for you! There is a wide range of activities that include walking, cycling and water sports. Don’t worry if you don’t have a bike - you can hire them for the day at Brockehole and go on cycle routes for example to Whinlatter forest and Grizedale forest areas. If you like water sports there are places where you can hire a boat and go on guided walks. Whichever activity you decide to do you’re never too far away from an amazing view by driving this far up North. Ambleside is one of those amazing views with stones houses and waterfalls.

Peak District

The peak district is another beautiful place to visit full of activities from rock climbing and mountain biking there are many exciting experiences to be made there. The Chatsworth House, also known as the Palace of the Peak, is full of history and one of the most historic places in Bakewell.

All of these attractions you can drive to a couple hours – depending if you’re based or heading North or South. Or, if your not a fan of being behind the wheel, use your railcard and jump on a train!
