St Andrews’ accommodation set for October opening

Posted at 10 September 2018 in CLV News

Two new halls of residence at the University of St Andrews that Campus Living Villages has delivered are set to open in October. The halls have been named after the American golfing pioneer Renee Powell and British journalist Katharine Whitehorn.

The new halls are part of a £70 million investment in student accommodation by the University, for whom we are the exclusive development partner. They will complement the existing University Hall and Agnes Blackadder sites.

Ian Scott, Senior Development Manager at Campus Living Villages, said: “The completion of the new halls is just the latest in a series of developments we’ve carried out for the University of St Andrews. We’ve already delivered the expansion of the Fife Park and there is much more to come from this partnership.”

“We’re also pleased that the University has chosen to name these halls after two inspiring female figures. We hope this will provide the students with a sense of what can be achieved from studying and living at St Andrews.”

The naming of the hall was cited as “an unbelievable honour” by Renee Powell who said it was too difficult to express in words the feeling of being part of such a prestigious university. She further added: “I have always considered myself as a citizen of the world and I guess now I will forever be remembered as such. I feel this is truly an historic and awesome occasion for a renowned university to recognize a black American female golfer in such a manner. It says so much about the vision and heart of the leadership.”

The buildings have been constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine as principal contractor and designed by HLM architects. The project team also includes Gleeds management Services, Atelier 10 and Woolgar Hunter Engineers and will achieve BREEAM excellent.
